WA/SA Border to Fraser Range Station
You’ve conquered the epic Nullarbor crossing and your first Western Australian station is ready to welcome you after a full day’s drive from the border.
Arrive at Fraser Range Station, check in, quench your thirst at the Nullabar, and settle in for a relaxing evening. Spend the following day taking a well-earned break or exploring the station’s walking trails.
Fraser Range Station to Kalgoorlie-Boulder
After breakfast, continue to Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Australia’s largest outback city and your base for the next two days.
Jump aboard the Heritage Tram Tour to discover the city’s famous gold mining history, or take a tour of the Super Pit, one of Australia’s largest open-cut gold mines.
When evening arrives, enjoy dinner at one of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s iconic Federation-style heritage pubs – the choice is yours.
Kalgoorlie-Boulder to Sandstone (via Lake Ballard)
Enjoy an early start as you travel to Menzies to visit Antony Gormley’s famous sculptures at Lake Ballard before heading onto the gravel roads.
Now the real outback adventure begins. Expect unsealed roads, red dust and wide-open landscapes as you journey towards Sandstone, where you’ll spend the night in simple but comfortable accommodation.
Sandstone to Melangata Station
Returning to the main roads, you’ll travel through the historic gold mining town of Yalgoo before arriving at the beautiful Melangata Station.
The station homestead, built by Monsignor Hawes, even features its own private chapel. You’ll spend two nights here, joining your hosts for dinner each evening, enjoying a station tour and finishing the day around the campfire as the sun sets over the outback.
Melangata Station to Meekatharra
After breakfast, travel through the historic gold mining towns of Cue and Mount Magnet.
Meet the station animals before continuing to Walga Rock, home to impressive Aboriginal rock art and second in size only to Uluru as a single rock monolith.
Tonight you’ll stay in a cabin at Kurulandi, an Aboriginal-owned camping enterprise creating employment opportunities for local hospitality students. A café is available on site.
Meekatharra to Karijini National Park
A longer drive today brings you to spectacular Karijini National Park, where you’ll spend the next two days exploring one of Western Australia’s most remarkable landscapes.
After checking into the Karijini Eco Retreat, cool off with an afternoon swim at Fern Pool before enjoying dinner under the stars at the retreat’s restaurant.
Karijini National Park
Spend your final day discovering the breathtaking gorges of Karijini National Park.
Challenge yourself with an abseiling adventure or simply take one of the many walks to admire the park’s magnificent geological formations. Don’t forget your swimmers—you’ll want them!
