Melangata Station
Melangata Station provides the ultimate outback homestead experience, owner Jo Claws provides tours of the homestead as well as demonstrations of the traditional camp oven cooking techniques used over 100 years ago.
Melangata Station is situated in the Yalgoo region of Western Australia, between the Murchison and the Midwest. The station has historically run Merino sheep, transitioning in the early 2000s to Damara and Dorper cross meat sheep.
A living piece of history in the heart of the Midwest
The homestead was designed by Priest Architect Monsignor John Hawes, who spent over 20 years in the Geraldton Diocese, designing and overseeing the construction of many Catholic churches and buildings in the region — most of which are still in use today. Melangata Homestead is the only privately-owned residential John Hawes-designed building in Australia, and features its own tiny chapel nestled within the main building.
Accommodation options include an unpowered bush campsite near the shearing shed with access to hot showers and flush toilets, as well as dinner, bed and breakfast guest rooms in the homestead. Future plans include self-contained shearers quarters and cottage accommodation.
