Fraser Range Station
Fraser Range Station is a true outback destination, rich in history and set within the vast Great Western Woodlands along the Eyre Highway. Surrounded by towering blackbutts, salmon gums and gimlets, the landscape features dense eucalyptus forest, sweeping grass flats, and dramatic granite peaks, including Mount Pleasant at 579 metres.
Where the Nullarbor tells its story
First identified by John and Alexander Forrest in 1870, Fraser Range was established by the Dempster brothers in 1872 as the first pastoral station on the Nullarbor Plain. Far from flat, its granite hills, abundant wildlife, seasonal wildflowers and immense skies make it exceptional for photography, birdwatching, bush walking, and experiencing Australia’s pastoral heritage.
Fraser Range Station offers six indoor accommodation options near Norseman. Historic stone rooms provide a simple, comfortable stopover with shared facilities, while single and queen ensuite rooms suit solo or couple travellers seeking a little more privacy. For families or small groups, the two-bedroom Overseers’ Quarters cottage and the Boundary Riders and Bore Runners’ Quarters both offer practical living spaces, with the three-bedroom Head Stockman’s Quarters catering to larger groups. All guests have access to shared amenities including hot showers, laundry, and a camp kitchen.
